What is a Backpackers?
Backpacker Hostels, Independent Hostels, International Youth Hostels, Backpacker Hotels ... read on to find out what differentiates a hostel from other accommodation alternatives.
Once upon a time not so long ago a hostel was a very unique form of accommodation where rooms were only dormitory style with bunk-beds. But the good news for any of you who might have reservations, is that hostels have changed a great deal and very much for the better since they first opened their doors to road weary travellers. Most people visiting a Backpackers today drive their own or have a hired car. Many prefer to stay in double rooms. All ages and all sorts are welcome.
The idea behind a "Backpackers" lodge, is that, unlike a normal hotel, it brings the people together. By everyone sharing all the facilities it means that they also share the costs - hence the low prices. There are large dinner tables which are shared rather than unsocial smaller tables. People gather around the campfire and communicate - people from all walks of life come together.
Our kitchen is also shared. It is fully equipped to prepared any meal. All cutlery, crockery and cooking equipment is provided. People all share this facility and clean up for themselves after they are finished. There are individual food storage boxes and a shared fridge/freezer. The bathrooms are unisex and also shared - The internal shower stalls and toilet cubicles are however private.
The Farm Backpackers also boasts a communal lounge with a small travel desk, a supply shop keeping a few interesting goodies, a book exchange system, a coffee & tea bar and a huge fire place for those cold snowy winter nights.
Some information that might come in useful:
The Farm offers private rooms and dormitories. Private rooms are usually doubles (For two people). Double rooms have full linen. (A sheet, a duvet and two pillows in slips.)
Family rooms are also available - they have a double bed and a bunk bed - they can sleep 4 people.
Dormitories vary in size - but range from 4 beds to up to 10 beds. Dormitories offer a selection of bunk-beds with a clean sheet and a pillow in a slip on each bed. (You need to bring your own sleeping bag or duvet only.)
The lodge is situated on a working fruit farm - it is surrounded by mountains and the most amazing scenery.
Our theme at the lodge is Old Farm - So expect things to be rustic - comfort is however, never compromised.
Safety is not a concern on The Farm. We live in a peaceful environment - far away from any cities or big towns.
There are shared ablutions - sharing communal shower / toilet facilities - which are provided not too far away.
The Farm has a self-catering kitchen where you can cook your own meals, as well as our own restaurant and bar.
Hope this helps you get the picture....
